Assignment 8: Accessible Books
An accessible book is a book that has been digitally created or re-created so that text and story illustrations are accessible to an individual who is unable to read independently. This includes those who are physically unable to hold a book and turn its pages. Text-to-speech or recorded audio can be added to digitized (scanned) pages of books that are made available on a screen. For individuals with physical challenges, pages can be turned with switches. It is time consuming, but not difficult, to create an accessible book. Sometime "talking books" are accessible and a reader can access the book independently. Sometimes, however, a "talking book" provides only the audio version of a book or story and does not offer simultaneous access to illustrations.
