What do I have to do?
Overview
Please remember that this course is for you the learner. Whatever you invest in the course is for your own learning. There are required and optional assignments. For some assignments there is a finished product, for others there is not. If you would like to make the course more helpful in meeting your specific learning needs, please contact the instructor to suggest alternatives or modifications to what has been assigned. All suggestions will be considered.
Your instructor wants all assigned work to be of as much practical value to you as possible! Whenever you can, please complete your work with specific learners or learning situations in mind.
Job 1: Create a Website
All assignments that require a finished product must be completed in a digital format. Unless you have already created a website that will work for this course, you are to create a website where assignments can be embedded or otherwise represented on a web page. Please embed your work right on the webpage rather than making it available for download from the page.
If you are new to creating websites, it is recommended that you use Weebly because the instructor will be able to support you better. An effective website can be created free of charge with Weebly, but there may be minor limitations with the free option. Please note: there is no reason that you need to upgrade to a paid option. It may seem as though you need to upgrade, but this is not the case. (Please ask for help if you get stuck at this point!)
If you have a strong preference for using Google Sites, or another such option you may. Google Sites is easy to learn, especially if you already have a Google account that you are familiar with. Here's a video that clearly explains Google Sites.

Important Note: For some, creating a website will be a new experience. There are probably others of you who have considerable experience as webmeisters. The intention is for you to extend and develop your skills, whatever your starting point may be. You may already have a website where you would like to include what you create for this course. This course is for you, so please do what works best for you!
When completing assignments, you are encouraged to try using tools that are new to you. This is an opportunity for you to extend your skills, as well as to add to the range of tools that you can use effectively in your professional work and/or personal life.

Website Suggestions
- Establish a clear purpose for your site, and try to ensure that the purpose is clear to anyone who visits the site.
- Organize content carefully, and make your site easy to navigate.
- Keep in mind that carefully chosen headings and titles make content easier to find.
- Use appropriate graphics to support written text. Any site with images and video is much more engaging than one without. It also extends the range of options in terms of representing information. Be sure to use only copyright-friendly graphics, multimedia, etc. You are always free to use any materials you have created.
- Links to other websites are valuable, but test the links you include to make sure they work as intended.
- Remember that images themselves can function as links if you wish.
- Embed multimedia on your site wherever appropriate. Feel free to create and embed your own multimedia.
Assignments...
1. In addition to creating a website, there are 7 required assignments, including the "Final Assignment". There are also three optional assignments. A "product" is expected to be put on your website for only 4 of the 7 required assignments, and a product is suggested for one of the optional assignments. The final assignment is to be included on your website, and you will present it during our final online meeting.
2. All assignments are to be completed by June 23rd, the date when the course officially ends. The life situation for each of us is unique, so the intention is for you to schedule your work in the way that works best for you. For those who rely on the pressure of due dates for getting assignments done and handed in, this may mean that you need to set your own due dates for individual assignments. Assignment #1 should be completed first. Otherwise, please feel free to complete assignments in whatever order works best for you.
3. There is an individual web page here for each of the assignments. If anything is unclear, please contact Paul.
